Taplow Youth Choir

TAPLOW YOUTH CHOIR

In 2008 Taplow Youth Choir were crowned the best youth choir in the UK after triumphing in a BBC competition. They wowed judges to win the youth section at the prestigious BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition.

Gillian was `elated' with the choir's performance, She said: "They were fantastic. For me the feeling of taking young people to that level is so great. They will never look back and they can go on to achieve great things."

The choir is now enjoying a partnership with the Gabrieli Consort and Players, which will culminate in a performance at the RAH Proms at the end of August 2011. Twelve singers from Taplow Youth Chior also sang with Gabrieli Singers at the launch event for this project. They performed choruses from Handel's Solomon in Christ Church, Spitalfields in October with a professional Baroque orchestra.To hear this concert click here.

The mixed choir, which draws most of its members from Maidenhead, Slough, Windsor and Reading, boasts a long list of achievements despite only being set up in September 2006.

NEWS

All Taplow's choirs are doing well, receiving invitations to sing in excellent venues, and enjoying their regular rehearsals. There are vacancies in the two younger, non auditioned groups. Visitors are welcome to come along on any Saturday morning in term time to join in and talk to the staff.

BOYS' AND CHILDREN'S CHOIRS
Christopher Wray is directing the children's choir and the boys' choir - both groups are doing very well, and are enjoying a variety of repertoire and performance opportunities. Christopher is keen to welcome new members. Just come along on any Saturday during term time to Taplow Village Centre, at 10.00 am -11.00 am for the Children's choir, or 11.15 am - 12.15 pm for the boys' group - meet the other members and sing along.

AUDITIONED GIRLS' CHOIR
The Girls' Choir has 48 members aged 9 to 15. They perform regularly at local concerts and have enjoyed outside venues which include Reading Town Hall, with Chaconne Brass, Windsor Parish Church and A.B.C.D. Convention Gala Concert in Guildford Cathedral.

In April 2007 they took part in an International Choral Competition in Celje, Slovenia and returned to the UK with Gold and Silver Medals and the Adjudicator's Special Prize for the best performance in the festival of a compulsory set piece. In 2008, they reached the finals of the BBC Radio 3 'Choir of the Year' competition and in July 2009 they gave the Premier of a new work at Lichfield Festival - 'Dreamfighter' by Tim Sutton. In June 2010 the choir recorded a new work for composer Jonathan Willcocks called 'Good for You'. In May 2010 Taplow Girls' Choir competed in the Florilège Vocal de tours, an international Choral Competition and won second prize in the Children's category.
