Christopher Wray

Christopher was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire in 1982. He began his musical training attending the William Appleby Music Centre studying the cello and tuba. He went on to study for a degree in music at Trinity College of Music and graduated in 2004 with a first class honours in Music Performance. At Trinity Christopher studied singing with Laureen Livingstone, Linda Hirst and Helen Yorke, while immersing himself in ensemble singing with the chamber choir and early music ensemble. He was awarded the Vocal Department Silver Medal for his work within the department in his final year.

Since graduating Chris has sung professionally as a chorister and a soloist in all the major concert venues in and around London.  He has performed as a baritone soloist in much of the major choral repertoire including: Bach’s St. John Passion, Christmas Oratorio, and Magnificat, Handel’s Messiah, Acis and Galatea, Duruflé and Fauré Requiems and Purcell’s King Arthur and Fairy Queen.

Chris began conducting whilst at college taking lessons from David Vinden and Peter Stark and taking part in masterclasses with Diego Masson and Peter Broadbent. He went on to conduct choirs at Wells Cathedral School whilst he was there on one year apprentice scheme.  He co-founded Fulham Camerata in 2007 and continues to be the musical director.

Chris is a committed educator and currently enjoys teaching privately and at local schools. He has worked as an outreach worker for SingUp and the Many Voices Foundation, as well as directing the award winning Taplow Children’s and Taplow Boys’ Choir.

He currently studies Choral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff with Adrian Partington and Simon Halsey supported on a full scholarship by the EMI Music Sound Foundation. He has taken part in masterclasses with conductors such as Robert Dean, John Butt and Eric Whitacre.
